AKA Says He Doesn’t Need To Prove He Can Rap

AKA schools a fan who urged him to stop proving he can rap.

The rapper talked about writing a verse and a tweeped encouraged him to keep pushing as it was rumored that his bars don’t hit anymore.

AKA whose real name is Kiernan Forbes slammed the rumors and said he has nothing to prove to anyone as a rapper.

“You know … “they” … will always have something to say. I have nothing to prove as a rapper … my catalog and the joy I’ve brought to my people speaks for itself ya know?”

Another tweep further supported the rapper’s decision not to prove anything to anyone.

However, the tweep advised that he stops using certain phrase in his songs.

“Just don’t say lekker fish and chips again lol…that was a bit …wooooo haaaa-ish,” reads the tweet.

Kiernan schooled the tweep, saying he has no plans of eluding it from his lyrics.

“My friend … if you don’t know that line it means you don’t know South African music history. If you think hey lekker lekker fish and chips belongs to me, you have a lot of homework to do.”

Nasty C changes His top 5 fave SA Rappers

South African rapper Nasty C also has a list of rappers he looks up to in the game. The likes of Cassper Nyovest and AKA made the list, however, he has had a change of mind.

The Hell Naw hitmaker was a guest on “The Episode” with Darryl Nyamz where he shared who inspired him in the game and who deserves a spot on his top 5 list.

“This is purely based on the people I grew up on and the people that when they drop songs I listen to them and go, ‘F***, I need to go back and write’. It’s people like AKA, of course. Maggz, at a point. Definitely Proverb, 100%. There was a point where I was listening to a lot of Mr. Selwyn, I don’t know what happened to him. And K.O. has to be there, for sure.”

When asked why he did not mention Cassper Nyovest, he responded: “Never really been in my top 5 rappers, but like, as a musician, he’s definitely up there. Musician, businessman, definitely up there.”

He stirred a debate when he mentioned his top 5 and stated how these people inspire him to go back to the studio and work on his pen game. He did however change his mind and introduced a new top 5.

On social media, he shared images of his top 5 favorite rappers and he did not say anything. He posted AKA first, then Stogie T, next up was K.O followed by Cassper Nyovest and then Da Les.

Other things people talked about when it came to the rapper was his interview with Tbo Touch on his Metro FM show, The Touch Down. He delivered a freestyle where he addressed his beef with Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie.

He told Touch that he was his most childish when he did that instead of addressing him face to face.

“Like I said I wasn’t being mature about it, I was being childish about it,” he said. “The way I was going about it was like very childish, I was emotional about it and when you’re like that you want to make someone feel that pain, you want to make someone feel like wait is this guy snubbing my type of thing, you want them to feel that,” he added. “I wasn’t open at reasoning and speaking about it and addressing it, I wasn’t at a place at that time, I was still in my like vengeance bag you know,” said Nasty C.

Musa Khawula recently roasted Nasty C on his YouTube channel The Pope Of Pop culture.

“I wanted to ask, you know that I had this question lingering in my head that Nasty C has been international, shame do you remember that video where they made him wear that white wool, with Elaine on that Def Jam song that nobody cared for and whatnot. Baby, what happened to your international career, why is you back? Is the music not selling, what is going on because you know here in South Africa you’re highly… highly regarded. Everybody thinks you got the talent” said Musa Khawula.

But as soon as you get international, it is a whole different market and your boring personality couldn’t match up with Gunna, and all of them… you know all of them dangerous people, Lil Uzi Vert, and their tattoos and then you decided to get the most horrible tattoos on that short ass body of yours, I do not get it but kudos to you” said Musa Khawula.

AKA shares what inspired “Paradise” featuring Musa Keys

AKA is ready to give the Megacy what they’ve been asking for, a new album, but first he is giving them a taste single by single.

On Wednesday he shared a snippet of Paradise, a single featuring Musa Keys that officially dropped on Thursday. In a statement shared with TshisaLIVE the rapper explains the inspiration behind the song.AKA

“Paradise is a song I wrote after a fight with my girlfriend on Valentine’s day. The fight is the genesis of the track. It’s about pressing the reset button with your partner when you argue, just saying you’ve held me down, let’s wipe the slate clean and make things right,” explained the rapper.

On how the collaboration came about with amapiano star Musa Keys, the rapper listed a few things that drew him to the “Tsonga Michael Jackson”, as he’s popularly known.

“First Musa and I are in the same management company, and I love him as a performer, artist, producer and songwriter, so I wanted a record I could make with him, something that sounds exotic for the continent and Europe.

“I was put on to Gyakie by some A&R, I listened to her stuff and asked if they make it happen, she jumped on the record,” he added.

His latest hit single, Lemons (Lemonade), featuring Nasty C, reached gold status early in October.

The rapper on Twitter claims the song had garnered more than 1-million hits across digital streaming platforms since its release on September 16.

“Congratulations to the Megacy. Unofficially Lemons (Lemonade) has just gone gold. Awaiting RISA certification. Plaques will be done next week. I couldn’t hold it in any longer. We back in business, baby,” he wrote.

In a recent interview on The Episode podcast, AKA said the song was about them being comfortable with being where they are in their musical careers.

“For me it’s not about, his verse is fantastic. For me it’s no longer about that competitiveness, especially on a song like that. It’s really about making the best art for the fans, and I think he blessed me and I’m thankful for that,” he said. “For me it’s about vibes right now in my career. I’m making music from a perspective of, I want to make music that I can ride around and listen to in the future.”

I have seen so much suicide – AKA speaks out

AKA expresses himself on Instagram following the passing of his colleague, rapper Riky Rick. The death of the 34-year-old shook the nation, as it was reported that he was found hanging, but all efforts to revive him failed.
Kiernan dropped a touching note on how suicide has become a common factor, especially with men.

Remember that the rapper lost his fiancee, Anele Nelli Tembe to suicide, as she kicked the bucket after jumping a high storey building where she lodged with him. AKA has been fighting depression for almost a year, and from his recent experiences, he said the men need attention as they’re damaged.

“Let’s keep it 100. The last 5 people I know who took their own lives, 4 of them are men. I’ve seen so much suicide over the last year I can’t even feel anything anymore. I’ve spoken to a lot of people, some of them said “He just got a bag from African Bank blah blah etc … “ … that tells you everything you need to know about this fucked up, fake ass algorithm world we have created for ourselves to live in. Riky went to Hilton, he grew up around money,” he wrote in tribute to the late rap star. Supa Mega further preached the solution needed to reduce suicide.

    AKA

“I hope that very soon we can address the issue of how damaged and broken the men in this country are. We have no one to talk to, we just pat each other on the back and say, “get on with it, be strong my boi” … but in reality, we are traumatised. Generational trauma passed down to us. Ladies, we are not perfect by any means … but damn, we are crying out for your approval, your love and affection.
Please, can we RESET and go back to FAMILY VALUES?!. Can we (myself included) start going to Church Again. Please, can we start some sort of dialogue about MEN in this country because it’s our duty to protect you, to provide and care for you. We cannot make this thing work without each other. We are crying out for your help. This is so traumatic. Please, let’s not forget about us. We not perfect by any means but damn …. Look at the stats, we are taking our own lives at record highs. Something has to change,” he concluded.

Other celebs affirmed AKA’s spiel, and his mother, Lynn Forbes empathised with him, knowing that her son is pained.

Kiernan the courage it took or maybe the point of desperation reached in order to express these feelings. Be the change you want to see in the world son, I’m right behind you and yes it’s time to start a dialogue about MEN … a dialogue that is long overdue,” she said.

“I know how much you are hurting and my heart goes out to every family whose lives have been devastated by suicide and the individuals who reached that place of no return. To Bianca, Louisa and the family, I wish you peace and the privacy to grieve and heal in this very unkind world. R.I.P Riky,” Lynn added.
