Zodwa Wabantu’s dog eats her designer shoes

Everyone knows that Zodwa Wabantu loves her stiletto heels. But it seems like Zodwa’s love for shoes has rubbed off on her dog, Lisa. Taking to Instagram, Zodwa shared a video of all the Steve Madden shoes that Lisa has had a field day with.

Imagine these shoes range from R1000 upwards and Lisa is out here having them as a snack! In a separate post, Zodwa shared how Lisa only speaks Zulu as well.

Mzansi celebrate Veteran actress Leleti Khumalo

South Africa, stand up as we, and the world at large, celebrate our veteran actresses! It’s #Womandla all around as we get ready to send off our veteran stars, Leleti Khumalo and Abigail Kubeka, to Atlanta in the US where they will be honored at the 6th Annual South African Women’s Day AND 25 YEARS OF SOUTH AFRICAN DEMOCRACY Gala on August 24th. Halala!

The Gala is hosted by the South African Women Alliance (SAWA) and Brand South Africa and they have been hosting this event for the past 5 years. The purpose of this event is to celebrate, exhibit and honour the strength and resilience of South African women, like Mam’ Leleti and Mam’ Abigail, who have paved the way and inspired many others.

Leleti Khumalo and Abigail Khubeka are no strangers to our television screens as they both veteran actresses still act on Mzansi’s most watched soapies.

The Imbewu actress, Leleti, first captured our hearts when she played lead character in the Musical Sarafina and she received a 1988 Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical. She was also a lead actress in the film Yesterday and has had a booming acting career ever since.Abigail Kubeka, on the other hand, is not only a veteran actress but a singer and songwriter two. Talk about a triple threat, hey mama!

The veteran actress first came out as a singer singing with popular musicians amongst the likes of the late Miriam Makeba and late Hugh Masekela.

The Generations actress carries many accolades to her name including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAS) in 2014. We congratulate you, Queens, and #Amandla to you both!

Catriona Gray and Tamaryn Green reunite ahead of Miss SA

Catriona Gray and Tamaryn Green last saw each other in Thailand in 2018 when they vied for the Miss Universe title. Now nine months later they have reunited, causing a massive social media frenzy among their fans. Current reigning Miss South Africa Tamaryn Green, who came second to Miss Universe Catriona Gray at the 2018 edition of the pageant reunited at a press conference this morning ahead of this year’s Miss SA pageant.

Gray is in South Africa as a Miss SA 2019 judge where she will help decide who Green hands her crown over to on Friday. After the press conference, which was also attended by Miss Universe 2017 Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, the beauty queens took to Instagram to express their excitement of finally seeing each other.

Gray posted a picture of herself alongside Green and Nel-Peters with the caption “Finally”. The picture has been liked 118 000 times and counting. Gray also posted a video on her Instagram Stories where she said: “So we just finished the press conference. We are reunited! It feels so surreal to be reunited once again with Tam and of course with Demi. It’s an amazing trio to be a part of and it’s just one more day until Miss South Africa and I am excited to see who will continue the amazing legacy that these two women have left.

Speaking at the conference Green said of her time as Miss South Africa: “It was better than I could ever have imagined. When I took part in Miss Universe, I felt the whole country behind me.

“I am thrilled to be celebrating this diverse group of talented women on such an important day. This event gives us a platform to stand up and be heard. People realise we do have opinions and we are taken seriously.”

Both Green and Nel-Peters also took to their social media accounts to express their excitement about the reunion. Miss South Africa 2019 takes place on Friday, 9 August at Time Square in Pretoria and will be aired on Mzansi Magic (Dstv channel 161) and M-Net (Dstv channel 101) at 5pm.

Nomzamo Mbatha shares inspiring message about self-care on Women’s Day

In the celebration of Women’s Day today, Mzansi actress, Nomzamo Mbatha, shared a strong message for her daughter and nieces on social media. Although Nomzamo has been spending more time abroad in LA than back home this year, she still cares very much about the women in her lives. The time away from home has really given the actress opportunity to reflect on many important things in life.

According to Okmzansi, previously, Nomzamo hinted that married life is not for her despite having been engaged before, but she shared that that did not mean kids were out of the picture too. In a recent Instagram live post, Nomzamo shared what she wanted to teach her daughter and nieces one day.

She wrote: “Things I want to teach my daughter and nieces. That you can take yourself out on a gaddam 5-star dinner date and spoil yourself to the fullest. Celeste Ntuli: My thick skin helped me as a female comedian

In commemoration of Women’s Day, comedian and actress Celeste Ntuli has weighed in on being a woman in 2019. Celeste is known as a powerhouse in the comedy industry and will on Friday join several other comedians headlining The Kings and Queens of Comedy, The Women’s Day Edition.

Talking to TshisaLIVE ahead of the show, Celeste opened up about her own experience with patriarchy in the industry and explained that she had developed a thick skin.
Growing up and being called names made me stronger as I came to realise that being called names didn’t faze me. I had to learn to either pick myself up or to allow people to put me down. It’s either you learn to love or hate yourself.

Although she might be in a male-dominated industry, Celeste felt women could make people laugh too. There’s nothing wrong being identified as female. As I believe there is no difference between a male or female comedian. In fact, we women can make you laugh even harder!

She admitted that she doesn’t see challenges as a negative thing as she felt that she’s never faced such, only through observation of others. My life was designed in such a way that I don’t see the hurdles in my journey as challenges, but life lessons. As soon we women start looking at challenges that way, the sooner we’ll move up in this world.

Talking about The Kings and Queens of Comedy event, set to take place on August 9 at Emperors Palace, Celeste said fans can expect a lot of laughter and “sexiness”.

“The difference about this edition is that we don’t do them quite often, it’s just something special for the ladies. The show promises women who’ll be attending lots of laughter and sexiness, they should really come through to the show.

Crushing on Khayakazi Kula aka Martha from #TheQueenMzansi

Born in 1986, New Brighton, Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa, Khayakazi Kula is a jack of all trades in the acting circles. She can move from playing the role of youth in her teens, and a mature middle-aged woman with relative ease. Making her a flexible actress who can adapt to different roles in a play, should that be needed. This disposition could be tracked from her area of study, public relations and communications at the University of Johannesburg.

Khayakazi’s first TV role was on Mtunzini.com as Tyhileka in 2008 and her first lead was that of Lizeka in Intsika. In 2012 she was cast as Pinky on SABC1 youth drama series Tshisa.

In 2014 she was as Pinky in a real-life television drama Soul City – alongside Nunu Khumalo, Lerato Mvelase, and Gontse Ntshegang. In 2014 was cast as Palesa on SABC1 drama series Kowethu. In 2016 she was cast as young Nomazwe in a Xhosa television drama series Isikizi – alongside Zandile Msutwana, Thamsanqa Mbongo, and Sivenathi Ntshwanti.

In 2016 she cast as Martha Ndlovu on Mzansi Magic soapie drama The Queen. In 2017 she was cast as Bonnie on e.tv’s telenovela Broken Vows.

She recently triggered anxiety among her fans when she disclosed that she was stopping playing the character ‘Martha’ on Mzansi Magic telenovela The Queen. The role that many of her followers have for years not just attached her, but have attached it to her only.

Being Martha, she became a darling for many for a trait of being a family centred and always willing to help others. This is a temperament Khayakazi in real life shares with Martha.

Bonang Matheba Begs Cassper Nyovest not to sue Her

Bonang Matheba was shaking in her boots when she accidentally used Cassper Nyovest’s signature phrase, “Fill Up” in a tweet and Abuti saw it on his timeline. It was probably an innocent mistake on Queen B’s part but things kicked off when she took to Twitter to write, “Remember to fill up before midnight!”. The presenter was simply talking about the need to top up on fuel before the petrol prices increased at midnight, but not everybody took it this way.

Cassper Nyovest’s fans suggested that she was looking for trouble by using the same phrase that the rapper has used to name his hotly followed series of concerts over the years, “Fill Up”. Just when Bonang thought she might have gotten away with it, Mufasa confirmed her worst fears: he had seen her obvious plagiarism of his not-trademarked-but-still-his concert name. Fearing a fight, Bonang begged him not to sue her:

It looked as if both megastars were about to lawyer up, until Cassper was able to settle it out of court. He found it in his heart to forgive Bonng because.

Okay, okay! We know they were joking all along, but Cassper Nyovest has proven that he doesn’t take use of the phrase “Fill Up” very lightly. Back in 2018 Cassper tried to call out Benny Mayengani for using the phrase for his own concert, Fill Up Giyani Stadium. Cassper, who had promoted Fill Up The Dome, Orlando, FNB and Moses Mabhida felt as if other artists were unfairly hopping onto his bandwagon.

While many of us could agree that at face value, the Fill Up trend was very much a “Cassper thing” – legally he had no leg to stand on because he had not copyrighted the phrase which meant that Benny, and indeed Bonang, could go ahead and use “Fill Up” whenever and however they wanted. So even if Lebonza was not from Maftown, she would have been safe.

As an aside, karma hit back in the long run because Benny Mayengani’s Fill Up Giyani Stadium went ahead, but the second time he tried to use the phrase, for Fill Up Peter Mokhaba, it turned out to be a complete disaster. Do you remember this?

Gigi Lamayne and Sho Madjozi talks about colourism

Gigi Lamayne shares how an unnamed South African celebrity tried to convince her to consider bleaching her skin in order to further her career. As part of radio station PowerFM’s #987Woman series for Women’s Month, musician Sho Madjozi was invited to host the midday segment and take over as host for a day.

Madjozi was invited as one of 30 powerful women who are invited to the station for their annual three-day Women’s Day celebrations. Every August, the station benches its presenters for three days in a row and invites various female newsmakers and offers them an opportunity to tell their stories and share their views about topics they are most passionate about.

Madjozi (real name Maya Wegeriff) touched on a number of topics but chose to dedicate the middle hour of the show to the topic of colourism – a topic that her name has been brought up in countless times, especially since her BET Award win earlier this year.

Lamayne shared how an unnamed South African celebrity tried to convince her to consider bleaching her skin in order to further her career. Lamayne also stated that this unnamed celebrity told her that she had done it herself and it had worked wonders for her own career.

The pair went on to discuss the innocuous ways in which colourism takes shape in day to day interactions as well as the more overt ways that darker-skinned non-white people are discriminated against by people from their own ethnic backgrounds.

According to Madjozi, one’s experience of colourism isn’t always negative as she often hears things like “you’re beautiful for a Tsonga girl”. She added, however, that although the people saying this think it is a compliment, the underlying implications of the comment are very problematic and may be hurtful to someone else.

Lamayne likened this to the conversations had in hip hop circles and the archetype that most men in hip hop find themselves glorifying. An archetype that Lamayne described as the “light-skinned, long-haired, thin waist, big booty” type of woman.
