  • Mourners gather as Pele laid to rest in Santos

Mourners gather as Pele laid to rest in Santos

The football world will continue to pay their respects to Pele at a funeral ceremony for the legendary forward in Sao Paulo today.

Pele, who won the World Cup with Brazil in 1958, 1962 and 1970, died at the age of 82 in December. Tributes have flooded in from the footballing community and beyond for a man widely considered to be one of the best – if not the best – to ever play the game.

Former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro, whose term came to an end at the turn of the year, declared three days of national mourning after Pele’s passing. A number of footballers past and present have shared tributes on social media, while a funeral reception and parade through Sao Paulo will allow many to pay their respects in person.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino posted a picture after visiting Brazil to bid farewell to the legendary PELE. In writing ” Just landed from my trip to Brazil where I had the privilege to participate in the beautiful homage to Pelé that took place at Vila Belmiro, in Santos. I am dismayed after having been informed that I am apparently being criticized by some people for having taken a selfie and pictures at the ceremony yesterday.

I would like to clarify that I was both honoured and humbled that teammates and family members of the great Pelé asked me if I could take a few photos with them. And obviously, I immediately agreed.

In the case of the selfie, Pelé’s teammates asked to do a selfie of all of us together but they didn’t know how to do it. So, to be helpful, I took the phone of one of them and took a photo of all of us for him.

If being helpful to a teammate of Pelé creates criticism I’m happy to take it and will continue to be helpful wherever I can to those having contributed to writing legendary pages of football.

I have so much respect and admiration for Pelé and for that ceremony yesterday that I would never do anything that would be disrespectful in any way whatsoever.

I hope that those who published or said things without knowing and without seeking information could have the decency and courage to admit they were wrong and correct what they said.

The most important in any case is to pay tribute to King Pelé, and whilst I humbly suggested that throughout our 211 member associations, at least one football stadium or venue is named after him, we will set the example by giving the pitch in our headquarters the name “Estádio Pelé – FIFA Zürich”. Um abraço e viva o Rei!”

Pele’s funeral procession passed the house where his 100-year-old mother, Celeste Arantes, still lives.

Dona Celeste, as she is known in Brazil, celebrated her 100th birthday on 20 November – the day the 2022 World Cup kicked off in Qatar.

She was 17 when she gave birth to Pele, her first child, on 23 October 1940.

Family members say she has cognitive difficulties and is unaware her son has died.

“She’s doing well, but she’s in her own little world,” her daughter, Maria Lucia, who lives with her in the southeastern city of Santos”.

A stay-at-home mother, she dedicated her life to caring for her children.

“From a young age, she taught me the value of love and peace,” Pele wrote on Instagram on her 100th birthday.

“I have well over 100 reasons to be thankful for being her son. I share these photos with you, with great emotion to celebrate this day. Thank you for every day by your side, Mom.”

  • Everything You Need to Know about Eyelash Extensions

Everything You Need to Know about Eyelash Extensions

Eyelashes are one of the most subtle yet powerful facial features. They draw attention to your eyes, helping you to communicate without saying a word.

Eyelash extensions were designed to enhance your eyes by lengthening and thickening eyelashes. There are many forms of extensions which can create the desired look a client is wanting. There are single strands (Synthetic, mink and silk) which are perfectly curled and designed to mimic a client’s natural lash. Eyelash extensions were designed to make an eye appear fuller and more luscious but most importantly to be comfortable and non-invasive for everyday wear.

Eyelash extensions are ideal for everyday wear as well as special occasions.

While it’s true that eyelash extensions require less maintenance than wearing mascara or fake eyelashes every day, they’re still not really a get-and-forget kinda thing, either.

To find out how to prep before your appointment, what the proper aftercare is, and all the other important lash facts, we turned to Phillips and other lash experts for their insights.

A consultation will also help you determine what to choose for material (most common are silk and faux mink; silk is a bit shinier and pops more, whereas mink is most fluttery and natural), length, and curl type (J is the slightest curve but ends up looking longer; C and D are the most flipped up), as well as how many lashes should be applied.

A great lash artist will also mix lengths to give lashes a naturally wispy vibe, Shirai says. “At Blinkbar we use a minimum of four different lengths for every style we offer.”

  • Brentford 3 – 1 Liverpool

    Brentford 3 – 1 Liverpool

Liverpool missed the chance to reduce the gap to the Premier League’s top four as Brentford punished their defensive frailties in a deserved victory at the Community Stadium.

In a desperate first half, Liverpool shipped two poor goals amid an inspired performance from the hosts.

The opener came when Ibrahima Konate deflected a corner into his own net after 19 minutes.

Liverpool was unable to deal with Brentford’s set-pieces, conceding twice more from corners in the first half only for both goals to be ruled out for offside.

Moments after the second disallowed effort from Yoane Wissa, the Bees striker headed in after Liverpool had sloppily given the ball away.

A triple half-time change from a visibly frustrated Reds’ manager Jurgen Klopp, including replacing captain Virgil van Dijk, had the desired effect and Liverpool pulled one back through Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain within five minutes of the restart.

At that stage, the momentum seemed to be with Liverpool, but Brentford weathered the storm.

With six minutes left, Bryan Mbeumo sealed an impressive success, brushing off Konate in pursuit of a long ball before slotting home.

Brentford is now unbeaten in six games – their best run in the top flight for more than 80 years – and climb to seventh.

Liverpool, who would have been a point off fourth with a win, stay sixth and two points are clear of the Bees.

This was another special night under the lights for Brentford with victory against Liverpool added to vibrant wins over Manchester United and Arsenal since their return to the Premier League.

It was also their first victory over Liverpool since 1938.

But for all of their good work, Liverpool’s disorganised, error-strewn defensive performance was notable.

Konate was unfortunate with the first goal which flicked his calf, but that corner came from Mbeumo running clean through on the counter-attack and goalkeeper Alisson having to bail out the defence.

The visitors were all at sea at the two subsequent corners, fortunately surviving on both occasions.

They made one mistake too many seconds later when Harvey Elliott lost the ball attempting a dummy in his own half which allowed Mathias Jensen to set up Wissa.

Konate should have been stronger too in the closing moments as Mbeumo knocked him off the ball before claiming the deserved third goal. It turned into a sorry night for the Liverpool centre-back on his first appearance since reaching the World Cup final with France.

After winning back-to-back games following the league’s restart, this was a disappointing setback for Klopp’s side.

They have now dropped 23 points in this campaign – one more than they did all last season.
